Gandikota Fort

Gandikota Fort entrance is the first thing you will see when you visit. The ancient fort which is built in the 13th century offers a glimpse of India’s rich history. The fort entrance gate is of 20 feet tall and made of metal doors.

The fort wall is of 15 feet long, and the perimeter of the wall is 5 kilometres long. The George side of the gandikota fort contains 3 layers of wall.

It has 101 bastions that are each over 40 feet tall.  The fort is constructed using red sandstone.

The fort was ruled by Kakatiya, Vijayanagara, Golkonda Nawabs and the British. The fort had 31 Canyons. Out of 31 canyons, only 2 canyons are in gandikota. 

Camping at Gandikota George

Most of the Gandikota tourism is camping at the George view point 1 which offers stunning sunrise and sunset.

Islamic Structures

After the takeover of Gandikota by Mir Jumlha, they constructed A tall Charminar and Jumma masjid in gandikota.

The masjid has multiple rooms in front which are used for horses and the inside rooms are for used as restrooms. The masjid also has a small water fountain. 

Raghunatha Swamy Temple

Ranghanada Swamy temple, A 14th-century temple that took 200 years to complete the contribution is one of the 2 still existing big temples in gandikota.

At the entrance on the right side, you will find a diety decoration open room. A small entrance next to it is where the clothing and jewels are stored. On the left side, you will find kitchen rooms which are in ruins.

A small mandapam is Navagraha Navagraha Mandapam the back side of the main temple right side is Kalyanamandapam.

One can see Sila Shasanam’s carvings in Telugu and Sanskrit on the wall. Also, there is an attendance carving on the top rock of Sila Shasanam 

Stepwell

Located inside the fort complex and in front of the jumma masjid is a testament to the engineering brilliance of the past.

Locals say that the water inside never completely dried and always as water. One can see the steps of the well. 

Gandikota View Point 2

The second view point is roughly 1.3 km away from viewpoint 1 offering a different perspective of the gandikota George offering panoramic views and picturesque spots for photos and videos.

One can reach this viewpoint by vehicle or you can walk through the fort village. We advise you to visit the viewpoint 2 in the morning or in the evening. As it gets hot in afternoons.
